An imaginary space where thousand of little living beings share their
journey on board of this spaceship that we call Earth is how Ermengol
defines his series of cartoons titled Ermengolarium, published weekly at
the cultural supplement "Lectura" of the daily newspaper Diário
Segre de Lleida, since June, 1998.
His interest for insects and little animals comes from his childhood in a
rural area where he spent hours without television or Internet, admiring
Life in that little world of fantastic activities that occurred in a
vegetation of a rich subtropical climate, with generous rains and which
created situations for its micro inhabitants in many points similar to
ours own.
The portraits that Ermengol does to explore the variety of this world rich
in colors and original ideas are, to him, painted photograms of these
possible stories, little moments in the life of those little fellows.
At first his works were done in a traditional way with watercolor, colored
pencil and Indian ink but presently they’re done with digital coloring
at the computer.
Welcome, then, to the fantastic world of the Ermengolarium.
