To illustrate, to
illuminate, to bring to light, to make it illustrious, known,
highlighted, brighter, glorified, enlarged; to put the light of an
author over another author's text highlighting aspects that may turn a
literary piece into a more understandable work or just more beautiful.
That's the Art of the Illustrator.
In Pernambuco different artists have put their art in the fields of
literary, advertising or newspaper illustration, like Nestor Silva, Lula
Cardoso Ayres, Wellington Virgolino, Zuleno, José Cláudio and many
others who make the illustrious Illustrators Hall of Fame. Some of them,
in that form of art have expressed themselves better and got closer to
the public, like Lauro Villares, who receives an homage at this exhibit
by the Associação dos Cartunistas de Pernambuco
- ACAPE.
Villares, with his elegant Art Deco lines, who goes from Graphic Humor
to the more classical representation of the human figure - mainly the
feminine one - and who portrayed in ink and pen the lost monuments of
Recife like the Arches of Bom Jesus, Santo Antônio and Conceição or
the Igreja dos Martírios.
ACAPE, at the V Festival Internacional de Humor e Quadrinhos de
Pernambuco, presents this exhibit of
some of the present days illustrators from
Pernambuco who, as Lauro Villares did, make the pages of our newspapers
and magazines more attractive, using traditional illustration tools
until the more modern computer art.
With you, then, the lines and colors of Clériston, Felic, Jarbas, Miguel, Ral, Ronaldo and Samuca, in the Art of the Pernambuco
Illustrators.
