Lailson visits the USA right
before presidential elections day
Invited by the US Embassy in
Brasília, Lailson went on a visit to the United States, along with four
other Brazilian journalists, throughout five different states to have a
closer look at the electoral process in that country and how the US Media
is covering the elections.
Beginning at the capital city
of that country, Washington, Lailson and the other guests on the
International Visitors Program had professional meetings at places like
the Supreme Court, the Pentagon, Fox News studios, The Washington Post and
afterwards went to other states like New York, California, Florida and
Ohio.
American cartoonists also
were part of the voyage, with encounters with Jerry Robinson, Daryl Cagle
and Jim Morin and a visit to the Library of Congress, where an exhibit by
the Pulitzer-Prized cartoonist Ann Telnaes was being shown.

The Honk - Honk Gang
|
goes
up on stage |
|

|
The
Honk - Honk Gang (A Turma do Fom - Fom) a group of
characters created by Lailson for the Pernambuco Transit Authority
Educational Program, has reached another stage: it has been turned
into a play.
On a
very funny musical adapted by the Director Manoel Constatino and
with songs by Lula Queiroga, the Little Clown Honk-Honk (Palhacinho
Fom-Fom), the Little Doll Beep-Beep (Boneca Bibite), Uncle Horn (Tio
Buzina) and the "horridhideous" Hit-and-run Wizard (Bruxo Barruada)
sing, dance and educate the children at the Valdemar de Oliveira
Teather in Recife.

The Parceiros da Energia (Energy Partners),
a group of characters created by Lailson for the Educational
Division of the Pernambuco Power Company (Companhia Energética de
Pernambuco - CELPE), may now be seen in flesh and blood.
On a play presented at public and private
schools, Visor, Gea, Watt and Eletrika, in the same way that they do on
the comics and activities manuals produced by LHC Associados,
give the children the knowledge about how to deal better with the
energy and how to protect the environment.

Lailson's music from the 70's released in
Brazil and in the USA |
|
|
|
On the beginning of the
70's, Lailson was one of the leaders of the
musical movement in Pernambuco. In January
1973, he and Lula Côrtes released the LP
Satwa,
considered the first independent LP recorded
in Brazil and which is an icon of the
folk-psychedelic of those times. On that
same year, he formed, along with Paulo
Rafael and Zé da Flauta, the progressive
rock group
Phetus,
which never left any recordings.
Now the North American
label
Time-Lag Records,
which deals with specialized vinyl records
for collectors, is re-releasing under the
title " Satwa World Edition"
the album that is the starting point of the
underground rock scene of Pernambuco in the
70's, in both formats: vinyl LP and CD, on a
limited, numbered, series.
In Recife, the producers
Humberto Felipe and Flávio Domingues
released the CD " A Turma do Beco do
Barato", getting together again some of
the main musicians of the underground
musical scene of Pernambuco in the 70's. The
Beco do Barato (The Groove Alley) was the
place where the vanguard groups presented
their music at those times and the CD has
two Lailson songs written on that period
that had never been previously released (Anjos
de Bronze e Vacas Roxas). On the new
recordings, Lailson played and sung with
both the members of his present band, the
LBB and with original members of Phetus.

Conferences by Lailson |
 |
| |
|
On
the beginning of August, Lailson went to the XXXI National
Journalists Congress in João Pessoa, Paraíba, to talk, on the
opening day, about the technical evolution and the importance of
the Political Cartoon as a form of Image Journalism. In the
audience, Professor Erasmo Nuzzi from the Casper Líbero University
- the oldest communications university in Brazil, in São Paulo -
made a public invitation for Lailson to deliver a conference about
that matter at the University in São Paulo, on a date to be fixed.
In
November 10 and 12, Lailson will be doing conferences at the Salão
Internacional de Humor do Piauí and on the 16 he will be at the
Caravana Cultural da UNE in Florianopolis. |
