The
editorial cartoons of Claúdio Oliveira do not
need description or analyses. By themselves they
already are an interpretative description of the
social and political reality of Brazil, presenting
a heavy tainted and humoristic portrait of the
public figures who run the destinies of our
country.
A
dedicated pupil of Henfil, Cláudio started
publishing his cartoons at the Pasquim humor
newspaper when that publication wasn’t allowed
– by the military censorship – to be sold to
youngsters under 16 years of age. A curious
situation was put to the young author: he wasn’t
old enough to buy the newspaper where his
‘subversive” drawings were published!
A
never tiring apprentice, he became a master of his
art studying the classic authors of Brazilian
caricature like Jota Carlos and Belmonte,
graduating in Journalism and then going to perfect
his talents at the graphic arts superior course at
the University of Prague, in the Czech Republic.
A
witty critic and analyst of the daily national
politics, Cláudio publishes a daily panel at the
newspaper Agora São Paulo.
