HUMOR
The
State Government greets the
arrival of the sixth edition
of the Festival Inetrnacional
de Humor e Quadrinhos de
Pernambuco. The date serves as
a parameter to indicate that
we were right in supporting it
since its birth in 1999.
That doesn’t happen only
by chance, since the history
of comics started in
Pernambuco on the XIX Century,
where the first Brazilian
editorial cartoon was
recognizably published, in
1831, in a satirical critic at
the Partido Restaurador.
Pernambuco
renews itself without losing
the vocation to intelligent
humor and today is
consolidated as one of the
most important poles of that
art in the Country. That’s
why we have all reasons to
commemorate, from the
partnership with the
Pernambuco cartoonists
association to the insertion
of the event on the world
cultural agenda.

| AN ART THAT AGGREGATES
Comics
pass by,
inevitably,
through the lives
of new readers.
Colors and precise
lines are
singularly
perceived by
childish eyes, in
balloons that
disguise, with
amusement, the
text of
inoffensive tales.
The child grows.
The taste for
reading changes,
but Comics are
still present,
contributing as
one of the main
information
sources.
The individual grows, turns into a critical
being.
The Comics remain.
They wander
through the social
and political
life, even in a
jokingly way.
The reader, now an
adult, doesn’t
resist the magic
of humor
illustrations and
editorial cartoons
which transmit,
without hypocrisy,
what goes on, on
the real world.
Drawings, from a
simple game turn
into a serious
matter:
criticizes,
denounces,
questions and
polarizes.
Line by line helps
to build the
ideals of one
nation.
There is no
turning back.
Undoubtedly it’s
an art that
aggregates values
of a world
culture.
We only need to
look around
ourselves.

| CONSOLIDATED PARTNERSHIP
The partnership between the
State Government
and the Pernambuco
Cartoonists
Association
(ACAPE) is a
success since the
first edition of
the Festival
Internacional de
Humor e Quadrinhos
de Pernambuco in
1999. In 2004 it
consolidates
itself with the
re-opening of a
space dedicated to
the Comics at the
Malakoff Tower.
The Comics Library
Ionaldo Cavalcanti
opens its doors on
the first of June
to the lovers of
that art, with an
initial collection
of 10 thousand
titles. The space,
digitally
catalogued, also
becames the
headquarters of
the ACAPE.
These are achievements that,
in six years,
showed the
capacity and
action of
Pernambuco in an
active market. The
VI festival
Internacional de
Humor e Quadrinhos
contributes, once
more, to the
exchange of
information among
artists and
students from many
parts of the
world. This year,
112 artists from
22 countries
participate with
caricatures,
editorial
cartoons, gag
humor and comics
in the
international
contest.
International
guests,
conferences,
workshops, comics
fair among other
activities, mark
this encounter of
talents of the
graphic humor and
comics fields.

| AN APPOINTMENT WITH ART AND HUMOR
The last week of May is already an
appointment
between authors of
different
countries and the
public of
Pernambuco, at the
Observatório
Cultural Malakoff,
to find once more
the laughter, the
art and the
critical spirit
that comes out
from the
interpretation of
reality throughout
comics and graphic
humor.
It’s an appointment that repeats itself
very successfully
since 1999 and
which has given to
the public of this
state the
opportunity to
know closely the
work of some of
the best graphic
humor and comics
artists of the
world.
It also allows visitors from other
countries and from
different parts of
our own country to
know a little more
about the art and
culture of
Pernambuco and
Brazil.
In this way we arrive at the sixth edition
of the FIHQ-PE,
with the certainty
that we are today
making an
appointment for
our next meeting
in this event,
which already is
one of the most
successful and
important
promotions in the
cultural agenda of
our state.
