We arrived in Washington on August 15. The city looked like as if it was undergoing repairs or under a siege, with roadblocks everywhere and the local police searching cars and observing the people.

Only from a distance we could see the White House. To enter the Capitol wasn't possible that day, only with beforehand appointments you can go there.

Curiosities: originally the White House was red. When the British burned it down, during the American Revolution, it became completely black. It was then painted in white so it would not have England's color anymore!
