US MEDIA AND ELECTIONS

HOME

Lailson at Fox News

The second meeting was with Mr. De Forest B. Soaires Jr. from the US Election Assistance Commission. On the following day we started with a visit to the Fox News studios.

Ten out of ten Republicans will hear the news from Fox, while Democrats would rather hear them from CNN. At Fox we were hosted by Mr. Brian Wilson, reporter and anchorman, who said that the company tried to live by it's motto " Fair and balanced news". In the end, though, when he heard that we were going to California, he commented " the Democrats have a better audience on the Northern part of that state"!

Curiosities: while meeting with Mr. Soaires, I was surprised to discover that voting isn't a constitutional right in the US, because it isn't written down on the US Constitution. The amendments to the Magna Carta support the right of a citizen to vote in spite of gender, race or creed, but don’t establish the automatic right to vote for all American citizens!
